Wizards Plus: Butler's holiday spirit

Wizards Plus: Butler's holiday spirit SEEN AND HEARD AT VERIZON CENTER

Continuing the Wizards' Twelve Days of Holiday Cheer, forward Caron Butler did his part to brighten the holidays for 100 children of military families in the D.C. area. On Thursday afternoon, Butler distributed more than 100 new bikes and helmets to children whose parents are deployed or have lost their lives in combat.

The children and a guest also received tickets to the Thursday's game between the Wizards and Celtics.

"Being charitable and giving back to the community is always important, but it is extra special this time of year," said Butler, who since 2005 has donated more than 2,500 bikes to children in the D.C. area and in his hometown of Racine, Wis. "I hope this gift gives this particular group of kids an extra reason to smile. I can't wait to see their faces when they get their bikes, because this is what the holidays are truly about."...

The Wizards unveiled a patch to honor owner Abe Pollin, who died last month. For the rest of the season, the Wizards will wear a black circular patch with script letters "Abe" on their right shoulder. A pair of larger, identical logos adorn the court.

"It's a nice thing for around the NBA," coach Flip Saunders said. "Maybe when we go on the road, people maybe aren't aware, and maybe they don't know and they want to know why, and it gives you a chance to explain."

"He's not active tonight. I haven't even thought about it."
