Washington Wizards Roster Report 2008-07-26
DRAFT PICK:

JaVale McGee, C, 7-0, Nevada -- Athletic big man can guard the rim. He is a big leaper and has been described by most observers as an explosive player.

BIGGEST NEEDS: Having drafted a center and signed a point guard, the Wizards now need to employ an insurance policy should F Caron Butler suffer a significant injury for a third consecutive season. They have little more than the veterans' minimum salary to offer. Spurs F Michael Finley is a possibility.

FREE AGENT FOCUS: Having dealt with Gilbert Arenas and Antawn Jamison, and choosing to let Roger Mason Jr. leave for San Antonio, the Wizards are done dealing with their key free agents.

PLAYER NOTES:

--F Andray Blatche was the most impressive of the Wizards in Las Vegas, leading the team in almost every category, including assists (12 in five games). Among his other eye-catching stats: 88 points, 34 rebounds, seven steals and six blocked shots.

--F Dominic McGuire, who left the team briefly to attend the birth of his first child in neighboring California, shot better from the field (25 of 40, 62.5 percent) than the free-throw line (7-of-14, 50 percent). The swingman had an 11-rebound game and tied 7-footer JaVale McGee for team-high honors with eight blocks.

--C Oleksiy Pecherov did not play in Las Vegas because of a sprained left ankle.
