Washington Wizards Roster Report 2009-04-26

Washington Wizards Roster Report 2009-04-26
MOST VALUABLE PLAYER: Antawn Jamison played in every game except the season finale against Boston. He led the team in scoring (22.2) and rebounding (8.9), and he led the Wizards with 38 double-doubles.

MOST DISAPPOINTING PLAYER: Forward Oleksiy Pecherov was selected in the first round by the Wizards. Since then he has yet to break into the team's rotation. Even with centers Brendan Haywood and Etan Thomas missing most of the season, Pecherov remained behind Veteran Darius Songaila and youngsters Andray Blatche, JaVale McGee and Dominic McGuire in the playing rotation.

FREE AGENT FOCUS: Unlike last season when both Gilbert Arenas and Antawn Jamison were free agents, the Wizards won't have much housekeeping in terms of free agents. They will probably let G Juan Dixon, who was used infrequently on a bad team, walk. A bigger problem for the team is that it is pushing up against the luxury tax. This being the case, don't look for the Wizards to do very much of note during free agency.

--F Antawn Jamison missed the Boston game after spraining an ankle in the next-to-last game of the season versus Toronto.

--G Javaris Crittenton sprained his ankle in the third quarter and did not play in the fourth.

--C JaVale McGee took advantage of Brendan Haywood's absence in the lineup and finished with 17 points.

--G Gilbert Arenas missed the final five games of the regular season, resting his surgically repaired knee..

--C Brendan Haywood's wrist, which cost him most of the regular season, is fully healed.

--G Mike James is recovering from a fractured pinky that is not expected to be a problem when the team begins training camp next fall.

--C Etan Thomas has ruled out surgery on his torn knee ligament this summer. He should be fine when the team begins prepping for next season.

--G DeShawn Stevenson, who underwent back surgery, should be fine when the team convenes next fall for training camp.
