Washington Wizards Notes, Quotes 2009-08-07
--During workouts at Verizon Center this summer, the emphasis has been, once again, on defense. With the addition of players like Mike Miller and the return of a healthy Gilbert Arenas, the Wizards believe that their inability to score last season won't be a problem anymore.

"Yeah, we know we can score. We always have been able to score with anyone. But defense is something that you always have to focus on and continue to get better at," forward Caron Butler said.

--C Brendan Haywood says that the team won't miss the departed Etan Thomas, traded to Minnesota earlier this summer.

"Not anything personal against him, but he missed so much of the last two seasons that he became kind of distant to the team. He wasn't around on that much. That happens to guys when they have long-term injuries like that," Haywood said.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "I know the guys here want to get back to playing ball. After the season we had, how could you not want to prove it was a nightmare?" -- F Antawn Jamison.
