Washington Wizards Notes, Quotes 2008-10-08
--F Antawn Jamison had to leave the exhibition opener when he sprained his right knee while playing defense. The severity of the injury was not immediately known.

--C Brendan Haywood's sprained right wrist was scheduled to be examined by a specialist Oct. 8. Haywood was injured in training camp and did not play in the exhibition opener Oct. 7.

--The pressure is starting to mount on Andray Blatche to perform on a regular basis as opposed to showing up once a week like, say, the Sunday paper.

In his fourth season with the club, the 6-11 Blatche is seen as the team's most versatile player, capable of playing all three positions in the front court with some degree of success.

"I said it last year and I'm saying it again: He can average 10 points and 10 rebounds a game if he wants to," said guard DeShawn Stevenson."

--One player who could be a sort of wild card is 6-9 Dermarr Johnson. A local product, Johnson is with the team but is on a non-guaranteed contract.

Johnson would be the tallest guard (6-9) on the roster. The battle is uphill, though, as players like Dee Brown and Juan Dixon, also a local product, have partially guaranteed contracts.

--Wizards coach Eddie Jordan always begins training camp with some of his friends from the coaching fraternity present, and this year was no different. The Wizards welcomed basketball Hall of Famer and one-time Bullets and Boston coach K.C. Jones as well as Flip Saunders, fired by Detroit at the end of the season.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "I have just got to be a presence, you know. You're part of the team even though you're not playing." -- G Gilbert Arenas, out for at least the first month of the season following yet another knee surgery.
