Washington Wizards Getting Inside 2009-04-13

Washington Wizards Getting Inside 2009-04-13
The Wizards expect to recover next season with the return of a healthy Gilbert Arenas and Brendan Haywood to their suffering roster.

What they don't know is who is going to be in charge of putting it all together on the court.

Don't look for Ed Tapscott to be back as the coach. This isn't because Tapscott did a bad job (this team has been too banged up for any assessment of his coaching abilities to be evaluated), but he pretty much fell on the sword for president Ernie Grunfeld when Eddie Jordan was fired after a 1-10 start.

While the frontrunner is said to be Flip Saunders, this could be catastrophic for the Wizards because he is a micromanager, something that will not go over well with $111 million man Gilbert Arenas. Don't think for one second that when Saunders' name comes up in discussions the next question among the brass will be about his ability to co-exist with Arenas.

Former Dallas coach Avery Johnson is viewed more as a players' coach and will definitely have his name thrown out there, too. Johnson wants back in the coaching game, and he might be the type of guy who can relate to Arenas.

WIZARDS 100, RAPTORS 98: With time expiring, Caron Butler shook off Shawn Marion with a hard fake and then pulled up for the game-winning basket on Friday night.

Butler had 21 points and seven assists for the Wizards. Antawn Jamison's 24 points and 12 boards led the way for Washington, while Brendan Haywood added 15 points and nine rebounds.
