Washington Wizards Getting Inside 2009-04-02
Less than a week after Gilbert Arenas returned to the lineup for the first time this season, Brendan Haywood made his season debut with the team Wednesday night against Memphis.

"It's been a long time since I was out there, so this is going to be an interesting stretch for me," said Haywood. "We'll see how things go. Hopefully everything goes OK."

Haywood wanted to go through "five to 10" hard practices before playing, but he realized that with the season dwindling he just wasn't going to have that luxury. Haywood came to interim coach Ed Tapscott yesterday before the team's game at Memphis and told him that he was willing to give it a try. The plan was to bring Haywood off the bench and get him about 20 minutes of action.

GRIZZLIES 112, WIZARDS 107: The Grizzlies, who hadn't won a game at home since the All-Star break, were licking their chops in hopes that the Wizards would live up to the standard they have set as the worst team in the Eastern Conference. The Wizards did not disappoint.

In dropping their third game in a row, the Wizards allowed a struggling Grizzlies team to shoot a solid 48 percent from the field and score 112 points. Caron Butler led the Wizards with 31 points, and Antawn Jamison added 28 points and 10 boards.
