Washington Wizards Getting Inside 2009-03-31
Now that Gilbert Arenas has rejoined the fold, the next player the Wizards would like to see back on the floor this season is center Brendan Haywood.

Haywood had his best season as a professional last year, and some felt that his injury was more detrimental to the team than losing Arenas.

"I think it was to a certain degree," an Eastern Conference scout said. "They had almost gotten used to playing without Gilbert. No slight on him, but he has not been very reliable to the organization. Haywood, on the other hand, was the guy at the back of the defense calling it out and helping them attack the sets. He played a much bigger role there than he received credit for."

Haywood suffered a wrist injury when attempting to block a shot during training camp. As a result he had to have surgery on the wrist. But now the question is whether they bring him back now or should they just let this awful season expire with Haywood, whose contract is up following next season, sitting on the bench.

Haywood, for his part, has expressed that there simply aren't enough practices left in the regular season to get him ready to play, so you know where he stands.

PACERS 124, WIZARDS 115: It's hard to attempt 24 more free throws and shoot better than 46 percent from behind the three-point line and still lose, but the Wizards did just this at Indiana on Sunday.

Playing without Gilbert Arenas (rest), Caron Butler finished with 31 points and 13 rebound and Antawn Jamison added 29 points as the Wizards fell to 17-58.
