Washington Wizards Getting Inside 2009-03-25
Gilbert Arenas is back to doing the one thing he does better than playing games on the court.

Playing games off it.

Arenas, who has been practicing with the Wizards for weeks, told a Washington TV reporter by text message that he was "playing Saturday" against Detroit.

He has told other outlets that he might play Saturday, or that playing Saturday is in the plans.

The bottom line is that the only reason for Arenas to come back is to show that he should be almost back to himself when the 2009-10 season begins next fall.

Arenas has undergone three surgeries on his left knee in the span of less than two years. In the meantime, the Wizards guaranteed him $111 million, a deal that will either make or break the franchise and will also determine the legacy of team president Ernie Grunfeld in Washington.

When the team goes to consider a coach this summer the biggest determining factor will be whether or not Arenas will want to play for him.

The season is a washout with or without Arenas right now. The Wizards are still the worst team in the Eastern Conference and it's hard not to think Arenas is running things in Washington these days.

BULLS 101, WIZARDS 99: The Wizards took a 12-point lead in the first half only to see the Bulls rally in the third quarter and hold on for the win.

Antawn Jamison had 34 points and 12 rebounds, and Andray Blatche had 15 points and 13 rebounds as the Wizards lost for the fifth time in a row.

The Bulls outscored the Wizards 33-20 in the third quarter, taking over the game and staving off a late Wizards rally.
