Washington Wizards Getting Inside 2009-02-28
Not many outside Washington may have noticed, but it appears that Dominic McGuire is starting to turn into a pretty decent player. In fact, McGuire has had a very strong late February, giving the Wizards reason to be optimistic that one of their young players can play.

On Feb. 20, in a rare victory over New Jersey, the second-year forward posted a double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds. Two games later, in a loss to Philadelphia, McGuire posted 14 points and 14 rebounds in a loss to Philly, and on Friday night McGuire struck again, this time with 10 points and 11 rebounds. During that stretch, the Wizards have played much better basketball, winning three of their last five games.

"I'm starting to feel more comfortable these days, knowing what is expected of me and feeling confident that I can go out there and get it done," said McGuire. "That's the key."

Interim coach Ed Tapscott agreed.

"He is showing a great deal of improvement right through here and that is a very good sign," Tapscott said. "I'm happy for him because he is working as hard as anybody on the team. I think he's starting to understand what it takes to be a veteran."

WIZARDS 113, BULLS 90: With President Barack Obama in attendance, the Wizards put a whipping on Obama's hometown Bulls.

With Antawn Jamison leading the way with 27 points and 11 rebounds, the Wizards placed eight players in double-figures to notch their largest win of the season.

"We played good basketball from start to finish (Friday night)," Jamison said. "It feels good. It brings back some pretty good memories about how thing have been in the past."
