Washington Wizards Getting Inside 2009-12-13

Washington Wizards Getting Inside 2009-12-13The Wizards had hoped to turn things around in December. However, judging from the early results, it appears things will only get worse.

After beginning the month with wins over Toronto and Milwaukee, the Wizards have dropped their last four games and begin a West Coast road trip on Monday.

While this is the less daunting of the two trips out West (Clippers, Kings, Warriors and Suns, compared to their March excursion in which they will play at Utah, Denver, Portland and the Lakers), this trip is problematic in that the Wizards just aren't a very good basketball team right now.

"We are just not getting it done," Wizards center Brendan Haywood said. "We are a better team than we have shown but I'm sure people are tired of hearing that. We've got to show it on the floor. So far this year we haven't done that."

PACERS 114, WIZARDS 113: Point guard Gilbert Arenas missed two free throws with 6.6 seconds to play, opening the door for the Pacers' Mike Dunleavy to sink two game-winning free throws with 0.1 seconds left.

"We are inventing ways to lose," Wizards coach Flip Saunders said.

After Arenas missed his free throws, Indiana's T.J. Ford dribbled the length of the court and missed a layup that officials ruled Brendan Haywood had tipped out of bounds. On the inbounds pass with one-tenth of a second to play, Dunleavy was fouled attempting a shot. Following a replay, Dunleavy stepped to the line and sealed the victory.

Wasted in the night was Arenas' triple-double (22 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds). Antawn Jamison finished with a game-high 31 points.
