Washington Wizards Getting Inside 2009-10-31

Washington Wizards Getting Inside 2009-10-31This is already starting to look like last season. After two road games to begin the 2009-10 season, the Wizards will play their home opener Saturday night and already the injuries are piling up.

Caron Butler suffered what the Wizards called a bruised knee in a Thursday night loss at Atlanta when he dove for a loose ball near the end of the first half. Following the game, Wizard coach Flip Saunders said that preliminary X-rays didn't reveal anything beyond a bruise. However, the team will have a better idea of the nature of the injury Saturday.

If Butler is unable to go tonight against New Jersey it will mean that the Wizards could be without both their starting forwards. Last year's leading scorer, power forward Antawn Jamison, is expected to miss the next three weeks with a shoulder injury he suffered during the preseason.

HAWKS 100, WIZARDS 89: The shorthanded Wizards -- a term the team became too familiar with last season -- fell behind by 15 points and were unable to rally on the road against the Hawks.

Gilbert Arenas led the Wizards with 23 points to lead the Wizards but he also committed seven of his team's 14 turnovers. Brendan Haywood was solid with 19 points, nine rebounds and two blocks but it wasn't enough to lift the Wizards over the Hawks, who placed five players in double-figure scoring.
