Washington Wizards Getting Inside 2009-10-29

Washington Wizards Getting Inside 2009-10-29Coach Flip Saunders traveled to Dallas for the team's season opener still not certain how his starting lineup would look.

This, however, is not a sign of indecision. It is more a byproduct of the team having more depth than anyone in Washington can remember.

While the team is going to be without the services of Antawn Jamison for the first three to five weeks of the season because of a shoulder injury, Gilbert Arenas, Brendan Haywood, Caron Butler were a given to start. But the bigger questions were who would start at power forward and center.

Not long before the game, Saunders made it clear that that the guys getting the call would be Fabricio Oberto at power forward and, to the surprise of many, Mike Miller in the backcourt alongside Arenas.

Don't look for Saunders to alter this lineup until Jamison returns to the team in November. Saunders is going to look for added scoring punch from the bench early to come from guys like Randy Foye and Andray Blatche.

WIZARDS 102, MAVERICKS 91: If there was any question regarding whether Gilbert Arenas is back, the three-time All-Star wasted little time in answering emphatically. Arenas, coming off three knee surgeries, blew past anyone the Mavs put on him on the way to 29 points, nine assists and just three turnovers.

Just as important as Arenas playing so well in the 2009-10 debut was the Wizards holding the Wizards to just 39 percent shooting from the floor.
