Washington Wizards Getting Inside 2009-10-08

Washington Wizards Getting Inside 2009-10-08Gilbert Arenas is boycotting the local Washington media. Arenas says this is a part of his new image, one that will see him as a more mature and focused player. Gone forever, Arenas says, are the days of nicknaming his performances and challenging other players in the media to keep up with him.

However, while Arenas is not going to speak to media again -- a boycott that will probably end as soon as he puts up a big game on some team -- his teammates are talking freely about their best player, and it sounds like most of them aren't really concerned about whether or not he changes.

"I don't think he needs to change." Center Brendan Haywood, who like Arenas missed a huge chunk of last season due to injury, said. "I think you have to be comfortable being who you are. When we were winning and was doing all of his antics and actions everybody loved him. But when we started losing they tried to blame him. I don't think it was him needing to change; I think it was him being injured.

Former All-Star Antawn Jamison is more concerned with Arenas being healthy than he is about whether or not he's changed. Knee injuries have limited Arenas to just 10 regular season games in the last two seasons.

"He said he's serious so we'll see," Jamison said. "He says no more 'Agent Zero', so we'll see. But I'm just glad he's healthy and can do the things he's capable of doing again. He seems like he's matured off the court. To me, as long as he's performing on the court that's the only thing I'm concerned about."
