Washington Wizards Getting Inside 2009-02-08
Teams and coaches often talk about the comforts of home and how long homestands can heal whatever it is that ails a team.

But this is anything but the case for the Washington Wizards.

The Wizards have one game left in a five-game homestand that has seen them drop all but one of the first four games in alarmingly bad fashion.

The Wizards have dropped their last three games to an awful Memphis team, a mediocre New Jersey team and a pretty good Denver team. In beating the Wizards, those three averaged 117 points and beat the Wizards by an average of 21.3 points. With the Wizards defenseless all season long, the three teams combined to make an average of almost 56 percent of their field goals.

"It's just really frustrating," interim coach Ed Tapscott said. "The losses just keep on coming and coming. It's a trying season for all of us."

The Wizards will try to end their three-game losing streak on Sunday when they are visited by Indiana.

NUGGETS 124, WIZARDS 103: Denver led by 20 at halftime and by as many as 37 points in the third quarter as the Wizards absorbed another beating. So lopsided was the game that Denver players Carmelo Anthony, Chauncey Billups, Kenyon Martin and Nene sat out the fourth quarter. Antawn Jamison led the Wizards with 26 points, eight rebounds and five assists.
