Washington Wizards Getting Inside 2008-12-20

Washington Wizards Getting Inside 2008-12-20
As if the injuries to Gilbert Arenas and Brendan Haywood were not enough, now this.

Forward Antawn Jamison suffered a strained left thumb in the waning moments of the Wizards' 88-74 loss at Detroit earlier in the week, and for a team that is already struggling, this is anything but good news. The injury will require that Jamison wear a protective sling in upcoming days. It will not, however, force him from the action for now.

"It's sore and bruised pretty badly, but I've got some medicine on it right now and I'm a pretty fast healer," Jamison said prior to Friday night's game with Philadelphia.

The Wizards simply can't afford to lose another player, specifically one of Jamison's caliber. Jamison is second on the team in scoring (19.9) and he leads the Wizards in rebounding (9.7).

"He's a warrior, a true professional and a joy to coach," Wizards coach Ed Tapscott said. "Hopefully he can play and not cause any more damage to it. Lord knows we can't afford to lose him."

SIXERS 109, WIZARDS 103: The fourth quarter continues to wreak havoc on the Washington Wizards, who once again couldn't score late on the way to their fifth loss in a row.

Despite playing with a strained left thumb, Jamison finished with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Caron Butler added 20 points and seven rebounds for the Wizards.

Washington hopes to end its skid on Sunday when it hosts Dallas.
