Washington Wizards Getting Inside 2008-12-08

Washington Wizards Getting Inside 2008-12-08
The Wizards are at the point where they must begin to decide whether this season is a wash. It might be time for the organization to start thinking about next season.

There have been some bad teams in the history of the organization, but only twice in franchise history have they been this dreadful -- 3-15 -- 18 games into the season.

The 1961-62 Chicago Packers -- the team's moniker in its inaugural season -- and the 1966-67 Baltimore Bullets staggered out of the gate to identical records. While the Packers won their next game, the Bullets did not, dropping to 3-16 for the worst 19-game start in franchise history.

It doesn't look as if help is on the way anytime soon -- Gilbert Arenas is still probably more than a month away from being ready following a third knee surgery over the summer. So the question is whether the Wizards -- owners of the worst record in the Eastern Conference -- will be packing it in.

The bad news for this reeling team is that it doesn't get much easier for them. The Wizards resume this nightmarish season on Tuesday at home against Detroit and then, two days later, they play host to defending champion Boston Celtics.

BULLS 117, WIZARDS 110: The Wizards had their most productive fourth quarter of the season against the Bulls, scoring 36 points in the final 12 minutes at Chicago.

This, however, was irrelevant on a night when the Wizards allowed the Bulls to make 52.4 percent of their field goals. Caron Butler led the Wizard with 27 points, eight rebounds and six assists.
