Washington Wizards Getting Inside 2008-11-29
One of the biggest problems recently fired Wizards coach Eddie Jordan had with forward Andray Blatche was his inconsistent effort.

When Blatche was inserted in the starting lineup last season because of injuries to Caron Butler, Blatche showed the multiplicity of skills that he owns and hustled more often than not. But when Butler was healthy and Blatche was returned to the bench, he played with no energy, often looked disinterested and generally contributed nothing.

Going into the Wizards' home game Saturday against Atlanta, they hope to see more of the Blatche who contributed 25 points, 12 rebounds, five assists and five blocks in the team's 124-100 victory over Golden State on Nov. 25.

"Trust me, I was delighted to see that Andray Blatche," interim coach Ed Tapscott said. "We know that 'Dray has those kinds of skills and ability, but we also know that young players can at times lose focus, so we'll see."

Tapscott saw the other side of Blatche -- the bad side -- Thursday against Orlando. This time, Blatche scored just five points and fouled out in a mere 12 minutes, although the fact that he was going up against Orlando's Dwight Howard might have had more than a little something to do with it.

Jordan was displeased with Blatche when he showed up at training camp grossly overweight and out of shape. As a result, he found himself in Jordan's doghouse. It will be interesting to see if he can remain in Tapscott's good graces.

MAGIC 105, WIZARDS 90: After responding with an emotional win over Golden State in Tapscott's coaching debut, the Wizards were no match at home for Dwight Howard and the hot Orlando Magic on Thursday.

With Howard scoring 14 points and grabbing nine rebounds in the first half alone, the Magic took an early lead and cruised at Washington. Howard finished with 26 points, 14 boards and three blocks for the Magic. Washington was led by Caron Butler's 25 pionts.
