Stevenson surgery set for Friday
Washington Wizards guard DeShawn Stevenson, who has missed 28 of the past 30 games with a pinched nerve in his back, likely will have surgery Friday to repair a herniated disk, team director of public relations Brian Sereno said.

Sereno said the details are still being worked out, but Stevenson's surgery is expected to take place in the District. Stevenson had said Monday that he would have surgery Thursday.

Stevenson, who struggled in the season's first two months while averaging a career-low 6.6 points, had an X-ray on his back Jan. 1 after shooting pain in his back and legs became too great for him to continue playing. He sat out the next 15 games while receiving treatment on his back in an attempt to avoid surgery, then returned for two games in late January.

After failing to see improvement in his back, Stevenson saw a specialist last week and decided to schedule the procedure. He will be the third Wizards player - joining Gilbert Arenas (knee) and Brendan Haywood (wrist) - to have surgery since August. His rehabilitation will take about two months, meaning he will miss the rest of the season.

When: 8:30 p.m.

Where: AT&T Center

TV/radio: CSN, ESPN 980

Probable starters: Wizards - F Andray Blatche, F Antawn Jamison, C Darius Songaila, G Dominic McGuire, G Mike James. Spurs - F Michael Finley, F Tim Duncan, C Matt Bonner, G Roger Mason Jr., G Tony Parker.

Outlook: The Wizards hope to get Butler back from a two-game absence caused by tightness in his left hamstring. The Wizards lost both games without him. An 88-83 defeat Wednesday at Oklahoma City was the Wizards' fifth loss in six games. In Washington's last game against the Spurs, former Wizards guard Mason scored a game-high 25 points to lead visiting San Antonio to a 98-67 victory.
